DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION APPROVED AND CONTRACT AWARDED FOR NEW COBAR HEALTH SERVICE

Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries is pleased to announce the Development Application (DA) for the new Cobar Health Service has been approved. Additionally, the contract for the construction works for the project has been awarded to Hutchinson Builders.

Kevin Humphries said with these two milestones now achieved, early construction activities are expected to begin by October.

“Given the size of this project and the staging required to work in with and continue to deliver the existing health services, the project is expected to be completed in early 2020.

“The Cobar Health Service redevelopment project includes constructing a new Health Service, co-located with the existing Lilliane Brady Village which provides residential aged care.

The scope for the project includes:
  •  Inpatient services
  •  Emergency services
  •  Community Health services
  •  Staff accommodation
  •  Additional ten residential aged care rooms and light refurbishment of the Lilliane Brady Village

The project will provide a total of ten acute/subacute beds, including respite and palliative care that can be used flexibly.

“A key feature of the project is the co-location of the health services and the residential aged care services in connected buildings.

“This co-location will provide benefits for staff, residents, and patients by providing greater capacity to meet the increasing demand for residential aged care services in a home-like environment, and delivering a range of health care services in a purpose-built facility,” Mr Humphries concluded.

The redevelopment project is part of a $300 million program of works to upgrade existing or build new Multipurpose Service facilities at a number of rural and remote communities throughout NSW.
